Playing Games

The winter had taken it's toll on the dogs of Shadow Valley, the slush only just sinking back into the soil from the harsh winter. Spring was here, a time for new life. Inside the shielded walls of the Alpha's den, a large brown germen shepherd lays, his right foreleg stretched out with his left paw on top. Next to his tail, his mate, a gray, black and white border collie slept peacefully, her flanks rising and falling with ease.

A black-and-brown pup popped from behind the germen shepherd, her brown eyes wide. Her whole body on top of him, she smiled, licking her father's ear. "Dad!" she yipped, sliding off of him and onto the stone floor of the den.

The germen shepherd opened his brown eye a little, looking at his daughter with annoyance. "Leaf? Go back to bed....sunrise has only just come," he growled, nuzzling his head further into his soft leg fur.

The border collie/germen shepherd mix let out an annoyed huff before bouncing up to her father's muzzle, placing her paws on his. "But dad! You and mom said that I can't leave the den until you guys make me a trainee! Today's the day!" she barked, bouncing up and down while wagging her fluffy tail.

The germen shepherd let out a huge yawn, his glimmering huge white teeth glowing in the faint light of the alpha's den. He turned his neck around, craning to get a view of his alpha female. Twisting his body around, he placed a hefty paw on her side, before shaking the border collie up.

She opened her blue eyes, yawning before looking fully at her mate and pup. "Sharp? Leaf? Time for the ceremony now?" she asked, rubbing her eye with a paw.

Sharp nodded, flicking his tail for them to follow. "Come on, Brook. We also have to make the scrawny rouge a trainee as well," Sharp said, a hint of annoyance in his voice when he brought up the rouge. Leaf bounced in the air with excitement, before running ahead of her parents and out into the Shadow Valley Pack camp.

Sharp narrowed his eyes as the first rays of sunlight hit his eyes, before leaping onto a pile of logs. "Dog of Shadow Valley Pack! Gather beneath the Branchpile!" Sharp barked, his voice ringing about the camp. Brook took her place beside Sharp, nodding to the dogs sitting below. His beta, Thorn, bounded up to the Branchpile, sitting on his other side.

"Today is good for us! We are making two dogs trainees! My daughter, Leaf, will now be a trainee, with her mentor being Blitz!" Sharp called. All eyes turned to Sharp's brother, Blitz. The darker germen shepherd looked around before dipping his head.

"Next we make a.....rouge a trainee. This young dog's name is Speed, and we....welcome him into the pack. Ebony will be your mentor." Sharp almost growled, saying a few words rather harshly to the young dog. Speed padded up to the beagle, almost as tall as the older dog, before licking her ear, as it was accustomed for trainees to do once they've received their trainee call.

"This meeting is dismissed!" Sharp barked, leaping from the Branchpile and allowing the branches to move a little from his paws crashing into them. Sharp padded to his daughter, who was hounding Blitz for answers. "You go easy on him," Sharp teased, nuzzling Leaf's face.

Leaf smiled before returning to hound Blitz on. Sharp looked towards his pack before padding into the elders den, ready to talk to his father, the only elder, Alue.

Switchblade let out a growl as Oscar whined in pain. "Ow! That hurts, Switchblade!" Oscar yipped, turning to lick his hind leg.

Switchblade narrowed his silvery-gray-blue sightless eyes before baring his fangs. "Well? Who's fault is it that they fell into a thorn bracket? Certainly not mine, that's for sure." Switchblade growled, his short tail lashing. Switchblade sensed Oscar's own anger, until another dog entered the den.

"Switchblade? Sharp and Alue need to see you," the familiar voice of Rose pipped up, the white akbash pushing her way through the brambles of the healers den.

Switchblade dropped a pile of herbs at Oscar's paws, before turning to Rose's position. "Thank you, Rose. Do you mind wrapping those around Oscar's wound?" he asked, flicking a shaggy white ear.

Rose nodded, brushing past Switchblade. "Of course," she said, her pawsteps fading behind the blind healer. Switchblade dipped his head before padding off, his paws light on the well-treaded grass. Waving his way beside Ivory and Thorn, he padded into the elders den, his paws churning the moss and leaves.

"Switchblade..." Switchblade fought the wanting to bare his fangs as he heard Alue speak, his creepy, echoy voice bothering Switchblade's ears.

"What do you two want? I was with a patient," Switchblade growled, his paw tapping the floor. He thought Sharp would speak next, but it did kind of shock him that Alue spoke next.

"We wanted to know....have you received any signs from our ancestors lately?" he asked.

Switchblade narrowed his eyes. "No. Now, if you excuse me." Switchblade snarled, turning around to pad off. As he did, he had to shake off that creepy feeling. The feeling everyone got when the spoke to Alue.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Ivory, move your tail!" Thorn snarled as Ivory flopped down, her fluffy tail smacking against the beta male's face. Ivory quickly moved her tail, looking back at the black germen shepherd.

"So sorry, Thorn!" she yipped, snuggling into her nest.

A sneeze came from beside Ivory. "Oh great, now your fur is making me sneeze," Damos growled from beside her, placing a paw on his nose.

"Sorry again!" she yipped once again. Ivory bounded out of the lesser dogs den, her fluffy tail whisking in the wind. The samoyed sat down in the clearing, looking back at the lesser dogs den. Well, I'm sorry I'm fluffy! She growled in her thoughts, kneading the ground in annoyance.

Ivory pricked her ears as she saw Shade angrily barking at Ebony, the black germen shepherd's expression serious. "Well, so sorry I was sleeping in your nest!" Shade snarled to the smaller dog.

Ebony stood on her toes to reach Shade's muzzle, the beagle's gray-blue eyes looking even madder than Shade's. "I go out one night to hunt alone," Ebony begun, her tone unusually calm. "and then you believe you can waltz in and steal my nest!" Ebony bared her fangs at Shade.

Shade let out a huff when she saw Ivory watching, before giving Ebony one last angry glare. Shade stalked off, going back to the lesser dog's den.

Ebony let out a wide grin of satisfaction before turning around, coming face-to-face with Ivory. Ebony let out a disgusted snort. "What are you watching, furball?" she growled, rolling her eyes, then finally padding back to the lesser dogs den.

Ivory let out a short snarl, before two shapes caught her eye. Alue, the only elder, and Sharp, the alpha, huddled together in a dark corner of camp, talking quickly and quietly while shooting glances at Switchblade. The blind mongrel shook his shaggy fur, before padding into his den. They always talk so quietly about dogs.....and Alue, well, scares me. As Ivory looked on, the two germen shepherds must have noticed her gaze, for they shuffled to the safety of Sharp's den.

What do they talk about? And....what does it have to do with Switchblade?

Shade stalked into the lesser dog's den, her pelt ruffled angerily. She sat down and curled her long black tail around her paws.

Damos looked at Ebony, "You okay?" He asked as he shook his pelt.

Ebony let out an annoyed huff, before pointing her tail at Shade. "Ask that brat," Ebony puffed, slamming herself into her nest.

"What did she do?" Damos cast Shade a quick glance before turning his deep brown gaze back to Ebony.

Rose emerged in the lesser dog's den. "Whats going on in here?" she asked politely. She had been gone wrapping herbs over Oscar's hind leg.

Oscar looked at Switchblade. "Do you think this will heal quickly?" he barked.
~Oscar

Applefeather said...

Switchblade nodded, his thoughts on Alue and Sharp. "Uh, yeah. It'll heal in about....a day or two. Depending on how much you move around," Switchblade growled, his short tail lashing in a ting of anger.
~Switchblade

Ebony bared her fangs. "Well, she stool my nest when I left to go night hunting! Can you believe her?" Ebony growled, her claws digging into the ground a bit.

"Is everything alright?" Oscar asked him again.
~Oscar

"Who are we talking about? Shade?" Rose asked again.

Switchblade tasted the air again, looking around nervously. "Do you ever.....ever get that....creepy feeling when you talk to.....Alue?" he asked, the shaggy white dog shaking with nervousness.
~Switchblade

Ebony let out a low growl. "Yes." she growled, licking her paw.

Amber{Sharpstone} said...

Oscar thought about it for moments. "I actually do... sometimes," Oscar replied in a confused tone.
~Oscar

"Oh," Rose looked at her paws. "You can take my nest if you want too?" she offered.
~Rose

Applefeather said...

Switchblade let out a low growl. "He...watches us. Everyone. Constantly." Switchblade tightened the herbs wrapped around Oscar's leg a bit. "I'm starting to worry about Alue's health." he added.
~Switchblade

Ebony sighed, feeling kinder to Rose after her offer. "No. It's yours," she sighed, laying her head on her paws.

"Do you think that he does not trust anyone in the pack except Sharp?" Oscar wondered, not noticing that he spoke aloud.
~Oscar

"I-I can go make my own moss," she offered again. Her blue eyes landed on Ebony. I hate to see pack members down..

Switchblade stuffed his shaggy tail in Oscar's mouth. "Shush!" he barked, before sensing it was clear. Switchblade removed his tail after sensing it was clear. "He probably doesn't, not even Blitz. He never trusted Blitz, even though he's Alue's son." Switchblade recalled.
~Switchblade

Ebony stood up, before blinking thankfully at Rose. "Oh thank you! You are truly kind!" Ebony dipped her head.
~Ebony

"Thats sad.." OScar frowned. What would of happened if Alue or Sharp heard him say that?? Oscar remembered how his owners abused him. He shook his head upset.
~Oscar

Rose flashed a smile, and nodded. She grew crimson under her white fur. "I can make myself a new nest before night. Probably the next time when I hunt," Rose barked.

** me
(in Oscar's paragraph^)

Applefeather said...

Switchblade shrugged. "That's the way Alue processes things. At first, he payed more attention to Blitz. Than when Sharp got stronger, he completely abandoned Blitz." he sighed.
~Switchblade

"Oh, thank you." Ebony smiled.
~Ebony

Amber{Sharpstone} said...

"I wonder how Blitz feels about that," Oscar lowered his gaze. Once he was healed, he vowed that he would talk to Blitz, see if he felt how Oscar felt about his owners.
~Oscar

Rose nudged Ebony happily. "I'm a bit hungry, how about we share?"
~Rose

"I'm sure she didn't mean it," Damos said gently.

Rose nodded in agreement to Damos.

Ivory looked around, feeling angry and unwanted. It wasn't her fault her fur was so fluffy!

"Anyone else want to take a shot at me?" she snarled out loud. She could feel several gazes land on her. "Go ahead. I guess I'm just a good-for-nothing furball!" She growled and stood her ground.

Thorn stared at Ivory, a look of surprise on his face.

Applefeather said...

Blitz pricked his ears when he heard Ivory snarl. She wasn't unwanted! Blitz padded up to her. "You're not unwanted." he said, his head cocking to one side.

Anna said...

Ivory jumped as she saw him. "Oh - hi," she barked. "I'm sorry - I've just been - harrassed, lately." She let out another sharp snarl to those behind and around her.

Applefeather said...

Blitz chuckled. "It feels like that, doesn't it?" he barked, casting a wary side glance at Alue, his father. It wasn't just Blitz that the white germen shepherd harrassed.

Anna said...

Ivory chuckled in amusements. "I guess you know what I mean," she said shyly, staring at her paws.

Applefeather said...

Blitz flattened his ears to his head, before lowering his muzzle to meet hers. "You're talking about...." Blitz looked around nervously before continuing. "Alue?" he whispered, his tail almost tucking underneath his legs in fear.

Anna said...

"Yea," Ivory whispered back. "It's hard having a fluffy white coat around him."

Applefeather said...

Blitz shrugged. "Your coat doesn't bother me as much as our packmates," he barked, waging his tail a bit. "Fluffy coats help when it's warm," he added, smiling warmly.

Anna said...

"I guess you're right," Ivory answered, her tail also wagging slightly. "And I don't think your coat is too shabby, either," she added somewhat flirtatiously.

(OOH SNAP! LOL)

Applefeather said...

(LOL!)

Blitz grinned, twisting to get a view of his own coat. Giving her ear a flick with his tail, he let out a small laugh. "Thanks," he barked, fully waging his tail while his ears burned hot.

Anna said...

"No problem - it's true!" Ivory answered, her ear tingling where he had touched it. "It's very soft."

(GEE, THAT'S NOT OBVIOUS AT ALL...LOLLL)

Applefeather said...

(IT ISN'T?!?!?!)

Blitz smiled. "I guess so. Yours is too," he grinned.

Anna said...

"Thank you," Ivory murmured. "W-want to go hunting?"

Applefeather said...

Blitz smiled. "Sure." he barked, waging his tail and leading Ivory out of Shadow Valley camp.

Anna said...

"I bet I'll beat you there!" Ivory barked happily as she raced ahead of him, her coat blowing in the breeze.

Applefeather said...

Blitz grinned, pushing himself off of the ground. He bounded after the fluffy white she-dog, happily running at her side.

Anna said...

Ivory bounded ahead but suddenly stopped, sniffing. "I smell...rabbit," she murmured. Then she caught sight of a flash of brown against the green of the grass and began racing after it.

Applefeather said...

Blitz waited for her to return, thinking about her.
Her white fur...
How sweet she was...
That tingle he got when he was around her...

Anna said...

Ivory reached out and finally grasped the prey in her jaws. She trotted back to Blitz and laid it at his feet.

"For you," she murmured shyly, staring down at her paws.

Applefeather said...

Blitz smiled warmly. "Let's share." he cooed, laying down and nudging the rabbit towards her for her to take the first bite.

Anna said...

Ivory smiled. His eyes sucked her into their depths slowly until she managed to tear her gaze away and take a bite of the warm rabbit, savoring its taste.

Applefeather said...

Blitz took a bite. "How about you have the rest. I'm not that hungry," he lied. His stomach was clawing at him, telling him to eat. But, he wanted Ivory to know he wasn't greedy, so he'll go without.

Anna said...

"Are you sure?" she asked. But he looked positive, so she went and took another bite, then lay down and looked up at the evening sky.

"It's beautiful out," she murmured in content. "Look at that sky."

Applefeather said...

Blitz flipped on his back, laying close to Ivory so his brown-and-black fur mixed in with her white fur. Their ears almost touched, and their paws were posed up. Creamy-gray tendrils glowed finely in the sky, fluffy as rabbit tails.

"You're right," he murmured, his gazed fixed on the sky.

Anna said...

Ivory's ear tingled as she felt his prescence close to hers. She took a deep breath and sighed.

"It's so beautiful," she murmured, scooting closer to him inconspicuously.

Applefeather said...

Blitz knew she was getting close, but he allowed her, loving her company. The sun went a whisker down the sky as they lay in silence, just staring. Blitz was the first to break the peaceful silence.

"I think that today is...perfect.." he sighed deeply, his eyes twinkling.

Anna said...

"I agree," Ivory replied, "especially because of you." She enjoyed feeling his warm, soft fur.

Applefeather said...

Blitz smiled, allowing her to lay on her side and snuggle into his fur. Though he wouldn't admit it...he enjoyed being noticed by someone.
For once.

Anna said...

Ivory loved the fact that Blitz seemed to be the only one that didn't sneeze at her fluffy fur coat. He really understood her, when no one else did.

(AWW! THIS IS SO ROMANTIC!!!!)

Applefeather said...

Blitz cleared his throat, before turning to look at Ivory.

"Ivory...I feel like your the only one who gets me." he murmured.

(OMG I KNOW RIGHT?!?!)

Anna said...

"I-I feel the same way about you," Ivory blurted, blushing heavily.

(AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Applefeather said...

"About your fur? It doesn't bother me at all, Ivory. Why hate what makes you different?" he said, batting at some of her fur with his paw.

Anna said...

"Everyone seems to hate it," Ivory murmured. "They all sneeze and become angry with me. It's just...I feel unaccepted."

Applefeather said...

Blitz smiled. "My father doesn't pay attention to me. He allows talks to Sharp, but ignores me. And so does everyone else..." he trailed off, flipping back on his back and looking back at the sky.

Anna said...

"Really?" Ivory asked. She nuzzled him lightly. "I don't know why they would. You're one of the most interesting dogs I've ever met." She blushed deeply again.

Applefeather said...

Blitz lay closer to her, allowing her to rest her head on his chest. "It's Alue's way or the no way. It wasn't always like this, though." He sighed deeply, looking at the sky.

Anna said...

Ivory lay her head on his chest, reveling in his warmth. "What did it used to be like?" she asked.

Applefeather said...

"Well...when me and Sharp were just pups, just began being trainees....I-I dared him to go close to a twoleg nest. I never thought he'd do it. He met Brook, who was the twolegs housepet. He brought her back, and Alue, who was the alpha then, thought since he was brave enough to go near twolegs, that Alue should spend more time with Sharp. Everyone went along with Alue...even my mother. Everyone stopped paying attention to me." he sighed deeply.

Anna said...

"I-I'm so sorry," Ivory whispered. "But personally, I think that you're braver and stronger than all of them combined. It doesn't matter what you do...it's who you are inside." She nuzzled him again, comfortingly.

Applefeather said...

"Life goes on. Alue never was about strength or bravery. He's all about his words." He turned to Ivory, his gaze serious. "He seems old and harmless, but he could persuade you that a deer was a eagle if he wanted to. Just...don't trust him." he sighed.

Anna said...

Ivory looked at him for a long time, at the solemnity in his eyes. "Alright," she finally whispered in reply. "I trust you."

Applefeather said...

Blitz licked her muzzle. "I just don't want to see you fall underneath another one of his schemes. You mean too much to me to see you get hurt...or worse." he growled.

Anna said...

Ivory licked his ear. "Thank you," she replied softly. "You mean the world to me, too." She thought of how Alue had snapped at her when she had first seen him. She was slowly beginning to see Blitz's point.

Applefeather said...

Blitz smiled. "Thanks..." he sighed, stretching his paws out.

Anna said...

Ivory snuggled closer to her, loving this moment more than anything else. She was surprised when he didn't sneeze at her fur.

Applefeather said...

Blitz allowed Ivory to listen to his heartbeat. "Ivory...I felt like I've known you my whole life.." he murmured, licking her ears.

Anna said...

"I feel the same way," Ivory murmured. "You're...you're the only one who ever understood me."

(I COULD JUST DIE AT THE CUTENESS OF IT ALL!)

Applefeather said...

(SAME.)

Blitz smiled, nuzzling her cheek. "I'm not afraid to tell you anything." he murmured.

Anna said...

"Thank you," Ivory answered softly. "You're the only one I've ever loved who hasn't abandoned me in the end."

Applefeather said...

"You haven't abandoned me for Sharp, either. I finally have someone who knows I'm there." he said softly.

Anna said...

"I'll always know you're here," Ivory whispered in reply. And in that moment, she knew she wanted to spend the rest of her life with Blitz, whether he wanted to or not. She stared up at the sky dreamily.

Applefeather said...

Blitz stared at the now night sky. "Ivory...I think I'm in love with you.." he whispered, felling his heart swell.

(AWWWW!!!!!)

Anna said...

(OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS THE MOST ADORABLE THING...EVER!!)

Ivory looked up into his eyes. They were full of honesty. "Oh, Blitz...I've been in love with you from the moment I saw you."

Applefeather said...

(IKR????)

Blitz inhaled deeply. "Mates? For life?" he asked.

Anna said...

Ivory was jumping up and down, barking and shrieking with happiness inside. On the outside, a great love shone through her eyes.

"Oh, Blitz, of course!!!" she cried.

(AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!)

Applefeather said...

(I almost died with AWWWW'S!!!!)

Blitz padded over to Ivory, placing his tail on her head to stop her from bouncing.

"I hope you can handle the crazy father-in-law," Blitz joked, his thoughts yet again on Alue.

Anna said...

Ivory smiled and flicked his ear playfully. "I'd go through anything to be with you."

Applefeather said...

Blitz grinned. "Prepare for the ride." he smiled.

Anna said...

(THIS IS TOO CUTE!)
